State Powerlifting Meet

SC Warrior has Record-Breaking Day

by Tom Flax

April 12, 2010

On Saturday April 10, 2010 Kodie Stone and Frank Waite traveled to Bushton, Kansas to take part in the Kansas Eight Man Football Association (KEMFA) State Powerlifting Meet.  The State meet brings competitors from all schools that compete in 8-Man football.  Frank and Kodie were the only two Warriors that competed and they made it very worthwhile.  Each lifter has three attempts at each lift. The lifts that they do are the Clean, Squat and the Bench.

Frank Waite competed in the 105 pound division and had a very solid day.  Frank took home two silvers and one gold. Waite came in second in both the bench press and the squat.  Waite’s best lift in the squat was 115 pounds and his best lift in the bench was 95 pound.  On his last opportunity to take home another medal, he let it all hang out.  Waite put up a personal best of a 100 pound clean and took home the gold.  This was Waite’s first trip to the State Meet and he made the most of it.

Kodie Stone competed in the 198 pound division and had his sites set on a record breaking day.  Stone took home a fourth place medal and two gold medals.  Stone was also the overall champion for the 198 pound division.  Stone took fourth in the clean with a lift of 275 pounds. In the bench press, Stone had the best lift in his division, with a bench press of 305 pounds.  Stone also won the squat with a lift of 455 pounds.  At the end of the day Stone became the Overall State Champion of his division with a total of all three lifts of 1035 pounds.  With that total Stone broke a nine year mark set by a lifter from Havilland High School who lifted 1025 total pounds back in 2001.  There were many individual lift records broken at the State Meet but Stone was the only lifter to break an overall record.

Congratulations to both Kodie and Frank on a job well done.
