Southern Cloud Golfers Battle the Wind

State Golf Results

by Rick Hatfield

May 26, 2010

The Sand Greens State Championship was played on Monday at a very windy Play Luray Golf Course.  Three Southern Cloud Golfers (all from the Glasco side) made it to State this year and all did a fine job battling the 40 + mile an hour winds.  Grady Brayton finished 20th with a score of  96.  He was the only Southern Cloud Golfer to medal.  Tyler Pinnell was 21st with a 97.  Just 1 shot short of tying Grady Brayton.  Cy Schmidt shot a 107 for 29th place.

Garrett Bland of Lucas-Luray won the individual title with an outstanding 71 on the windy day!

The team title was won by Yates Center with a 346 total, Tipton was 2nd with a 348, Lucas-Luray finished 3rd with a 361.  Southern Cloud did not have enough golfers qualified to go for the team title.

"I was really pleased with our effort today, we went out on a really difficult day and did our best.  I know our scores were a little higher than we wanted, but we never gave up.  This was a great learning experience for us.  Hopefully next year we can get a whole team qualified and bring home even more medals.  I just can't say enough how pleased I was with our efforts out here today."  Said Warrior Coach Rick Hatfield.

Warrior Golf Notes:  This concludes another Warrior Golf Season.  The Warriors and Coach Rick Hatfield wish to thank all the Southern Cloud fans for their support and encouragement over the season.  Also, thank you to the cheerleaders and their sponsors for the goodies and drinks you gave us to take to state.  The Warriors also want to thank the Teachers, Staff, and Administration of Southern Cloud for all that they do to make Warrior Golf  possible.  Also, a big thank you to the people that take care of, and play the Miltonvale and Glasco Country Clubs for allowing us to use their courses.  Your help and patience is appreciated
