Lady Warriors’ defense leads to victory over PV

by Tyler Williams

January 10, 2019

The Pike Valley Panthers came to town on Tuesday, January 8 for a league home game.  The Southern Cloud Lady Warriors came out fast but struggled to find a rhythm until the end of the first quarter, leading 12-11.

From there on, the full court pressure carried the Lady Warriors to a 29-17 halftime lead and an eventual 59-44 win.  SC had 20 steals in the contest, keeping Pike Valley flustered throughout the contest.

Senior Kaitlyn Morris had her highest scoring game of the season with 27 (she scored 31 a year ago at Pike Valley), finding shots from inside the paint as well as mid-range jump shots.  Fellow senior Logan Cool scored 12 and was a menace on the defensive end with 7 steals.

With the win, the Lady Warriors are 6-2 on the season and have earned a bye headed into the Northern Plains League Tournament.  They are the 3 seed and will play the winner of Osborne/Rock Hills.

Scoring for the Lady Warriors: Morris 27, L. Cool 12, Ashton Cooper 9, Shea McMillan 5, Jordyn Scott 3, Athina Liby 3

Other notable stats: L.Cool snatched 7 steals as well as 7 rebounds.  McMillan contributed 6 steals to the defensive effort.
