Lady Warriors start 2019 off with nail-biting road win

by Tyler Williams

January 07, 2019

The Lady Warriors traveled the hour and half down to Wilson for their first game of the second semester on December 4 for their second meeting of the season.  The Lady Warriors kept the tempo fast throughout the game, gaining as large as a 12 point lead, but the Dragons would never go away, briefly taking a lead with a little over a minute left.

With the game tied and the Warriors getting the ball with less than 10 seconds left, senior Kaitlyn Morris raced down the right side in transition and hit a runner from 12 feet away with 2.7 seconds left on the clock.  The Dragons were unable to get a shot off and the girls of SC were able to squeak by with a 49-47 league win.

The win moves the Lady Warriors to 5-2 on the season before they face league foe Pike Valley at home on Tuesday, December 8.  After that, the Lady Warriors are off until the league tournament the following week (Natoma does not have a girls’ team this season, there will only be a boys’ game Friday).

Scoring for the Lady Warriors: Shea McMillan 15, Morris 14, Ashton Cooper 11, Emily Stein 4, Logan Cool 4 and Athina Liby 1.

Other notable stats: Logan Cool finished with 7 rebounds, Cooper  snatched 6.  Cooper, McMillan, and Stein each had 3 steals.  Stein recorded 2 blocked shots.
