Junior High Warriors fall to Trojans

by Tyler Williams

September 04, 2018

The junior high football team of SC received its first action of the season on August 30 at Tescott.  What they gained was much needed experience as they fell to the Trojans, 52-6.

It was a tale of two halves in the ball game.  The first half, the Warriors appeared to be deer in the headlights, not really having the experience of what it is like to be in a real game situation.  The struggles were fixable, just needed the confidence of knowing they can handle themselves in the situation.

In the second half, the Warriors were able to slow down the Tescott ground attack.  While they did not stop it, they showed more fight and urgency on the defensive end.   Bryson Schmidt and Lucas Jamison started to create chaos at the line of scrimmage and made tackles in the backfield.  Zack Duggin, who is new to the sport altogether, made a couple nice solo tackles around the end that did the Warriors in in the first half.  Cody MacLean made some great tackles throughout the contest but was eventually taken out due to a leg injury.

The Warriors offense was able to make it to pay dirt with a well-run option pitch by Levi Cool to Dante Peterson.  Cool faked the handoff to Schmidt, who had ran the ball the previous four plays, carrying tackles for about 7-8 yards each time.  With the fake, he sucked in the middle linebacker and defensive end.  When he had pulled the ball back in, he and Peterson only had the outside linebacker to worry about.   The linebacker committed to Cool, allowing Cool to pitch it beautifully to Peterson for a 35 yard touchdown, the lone score of the day but an accomplishment nonetheless.
