Lady Braves Work Hard on Basic Skills

Bumping, Setting & Serving

     The SC Lady Braves volleyball team have worked hard throughout the season to improve on their basic skills of bumping, setting, and serving.  This year, the group had a variety of experience levels coming into the season.  The goal was to get all of the girls to understand the basic volleyball rules, the positions on the court, and how to move to the ball.   The team is working on using the three hits to set the ball up before passing the ball over the net.

     The first game was against Rock Hills in Mankato.  The A team lost with scores of 22-25 and 20-25.  The top scorer was Sarah Stein.  B team lost also with of  scores 14-25 and 14-25.

     We traveled to Glen Elder to play Lakeside for our second game.  The A team lost with scores of 22-25 and 10-25 with the top scorer being Sarah Stein.  

     Our first home game was played against Pike Valley.  The A team won with scores of 22-25, 25-17, 15-5.  The top scorer was Shiloh Studt.  B-team lost with scores of 25-21, 17-25, 7-15.  

     The B team traveled to Mankato on Saturday, Sept. 25 for a tournament with Mr. Turowski and Mrs. Ohrenberg.  They played three games and lost all three but gained a lot of experience in playing the game of volleyball.  Scores were Pike Valley: 14-25, 19-25; Rock Hills: 19-25, 15-25; and Lakeside: 22-25, 19-25.

     Our next home game brought Lincoln to our court.  The A team lost with scores of 23-25, 25-23, 7-15 with the high scorer being Grace Peters.  The B team lost with scores of 23-25 and 18-25.  The C team played a 15 minute game with a score of 16-36.

     The A-team traveled to Linn on Monday, Oct. 4 to participate in a tournament.  The girls played Linn (17-25, 15-25), Hanover (11-25, 17-25) and Clifton Clyde (21-25, 25-22, 15-10).  The team took 5th place with high scorers being Jacy Martin, Grace Peters, Shiloh Studt and Anne Pruitt.

     On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Lady Braves welcomed St. John’s/Tipton onto our court.  The A-team lost with scores of 18-25 and 14-25.  The B team lost with scores of 15-25, 14-25.  The C team played a 15 minute game with a score of 22-31.

     Our last game of the regular season will be on Thursday, Oct. 14 in Miltonvale.  The League Tournament will be in Miltonvale on Monday, Oct. 18 starting at 1 pm.  Please come to the games and cheer on the Lady Braves.
