First Grade Starts New Year
Getting Ready for Kansas Day

The students and their teacher have gotten back into the swing of things after Christmas break and a couple of snow days.
The first graders have been working really hard on writing stories about how to build a snowman. They have enjoyed making word webs, lists, and composing a “sloppy copy”. Most students are working on using their best handwriting to finish their final clean copy to be displayed in the hallway. To accompany their story each student got to make two snowflakes to decorate the display.
The classroom has been full of buffaloes, sunflowers, meadowlarks, and such to celebrate the upcoming birthday of Kansas. The students have been reading about Kansas and learning facts about the state’s history through a program called Read Kansas. They are working to complete their Kansas Day Symbol books which include a coloring page of each state symbol and a cover that is the Kansas flag.
We are looking forward to our Kansas Day celebration in which the students will rotate through various stations to learn about our state with some hands-on activities.
