The Second Grade class at GGS is off to a great start. The theme this year in our classroom is apples. The students started the year with art projects dealing with apples. The students are creating dioramas of John Appleseed's environment. We have started doing experiments in science. Their favorite so far has been watching a stalk of celery wilt and then come back to a healthy stalk by putting it into water. They observed that it took less time for the celery to wilt (1 day) then it took to become a healthy stalk (4 days). In Social Studies, the students are learning about maps and how to find objects on the map by using map symbols. Our class took a walking field trip to Milt Henderson’s garden to see how a turnip grows and we picked some to taste. Our story for reading was entitled “The Enormous Turnip”. Thanks Milt.
The students are looking forward to Halloween so we have started working on the pumpkin decorations.
