Where has the time gone!  Before I talk about my classes I would like to let you know that the Student Council is once again having a PINKOUT to raise money for a donation to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center in Salina, Kansas.  The Student Council members are selling pink t-shirts with a Fight for the Cure/Basketball themed logo to wear the night of the December 2nd game against Lakeside.  Please call the school or ask a GHS Student Council member (Laura Darnall, Madison Davis, Eric Crawford, Darien Bellows, Justin Fry, Dana Heidrick, Kathleen McAlister, Shiloh Studt, and Adreanna Smith) for an order form or more information.  Last year the Student Council raised an amazing donation of over $1300…our goal this year is to top that amount, therefore we need your support!  We hope to see you at the game, filling the stands with Warrior Spirit and wearing your PINKOUT t-shirt!
The students in business and computer classes this year are hard at work.  The highlight of the Entrepreneurship class has been their participation in the Stock Market Game, which is sponsored through Wichita State University.  Each team began the simulation with $100,000 cash.  The students were able trade stocks and mutual funds that are on the Nasdaq Stock Market and New York Stock Exchange.  The trading session ends on November 18.  Along with some computer projects and book work, this class will also participate in the LifeSmarts program.  LifeSmarts is a classroom activity that teaches the students to be responsible consumers and citizens.  Some of the areas covered are Personal Finance, Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, Health and Safety, Technology, The Environment.  The students will once again work in teams and will take a competitive quiz online in January.
In Web Design, the students have been learning to use the Microsoft FrontPage program.  Once they become more familiar with the program, they will then use FrontPage to create new pages.
The Word Processing class is currently becoming more familiar with Microsoft Word.  They learned to set margin, create and set various types of tabs, type memos, edit letters, insert clipart and much more!
The 8th grade class is taking Keyboarding.  The students are learning the touch-type technique - which is the proper keyboarding technique, how to sit at the computer, and increasing their speed and accuracy.  Currently the students are typing lessons and games (once a lesson is finished) in MicroType Pro.
The In House Training students are busy doing a variety of projects.  The girls will soon be busy this winter with basketball programs.  They have also had some time to work on senior invitations and programs, labels for a grade school teacher, labeling folders, volleyball statistics, and more!  We also can do a variety of projects for anyone in the community.  Please feel free to give me a call if there is something that we can do for you!  I really appreciate being able to ask them to do something and I know that it will get done!
In Accounting 1, the students are learning the basics of the accounting equation.  They have learned about the assets, liabilities, owner’s equity, revenue, and expense accounts.  They have also learned how to journalize and post these accounts in the appropriate place.  Currently the students are busy learning about bank statement reconciliation and checking endorsements.
The students in Accounting 2 are using the skills and knowledge that was learned last year in Accounting 1 and applying it this year.  They are responsible for journalizing transactions using an accounting program on the computer.
