Randolph’s Notes
School Year Starts on a Fast Pace
by Sharon Randolph

This year has started out fast and just keeps moving. Senior English has made it through Beowulf (the Anglo-Saxon superhero), junior English through The Crucible (the Salem witch trials of 1692), sophomore English through Julius Caesar (Shakespeare’s play about how dirty Roman politics can get), and the freshman through The Endless Steppe (a non-fiction account a Polish family in Siberia during the World War II). Speech class is finding out that practice, while not making you perfect, helps a great deal when you must stand in front of a class and talk for a determined period of time. The speech students have also found out that a video camera shows everyone’s twitches and quirks at the podium. What mom told you is right—posture is important. The School Media Production class has been hard at work selling ads and planning the 2010 yearbook. They have also found that preparation is really important in doing the job right.
