PE Class Activities

by Tyler Williams

March 08, 2012

The weight room class has been in a terrific transition phase and has handled it very well.  Their workouts are new to them, but they have shown that if they put in the effort, they will get a good result when Max-Out time comes.  The five core lifts that we focus on are Bench Press, Squat, Incline, Push Press, and Hang Clean.  We also do numerous supplemental lifts, which are broken up in their daily routines.  We have added a 1000 Pound Club for the boys and a 600 Pound Club for the girls.  The top 4 lifts out of the 5 are added up, and if they reach the designated number, they are in the club.  Also, there is a monthly award to the student who exemplifies hard work, dedication, and leadership to the weight room called the Weight Room Warrior award.  Lance Heller won the award for January and Jordin Stein won the award for February.

The Freshmen PE have been great with adjusting to a new teacher to begin the semester.  Mondays and Wednesdays are our weight room days, Tuesday and Friday are our gym days, and Thursday we tackle Health class.   In the weight room, we focus mainly on core lifts, which are Bench Press, Squat, Incline, Push Press, and Hang Clean.  They have put in the effort and it showed with our February Max-Outs.  In the gym we have worked with basketball skills, as well as overall fitness.
