Mrs. Reedy's Class Activities

by Karen Reedy

February 05, 2009

The 4th grade class at Miltonvale Elementary has been having a great time this year.  We are currently reading biographies over several different American icons such as Sojourner Truth, The Wright Brothers, Paul Revere and others.  We are also creating timelines of each person’s life.  In Social Studies, we are finishing up the Southeast States and getting ready to study the Midwest States.  We made a play dough map showing the different elevations of the Southeast States.  We took a break on Kansas Day to study our own state.  We’re moving right along in our math books and have been working on dividing and mean (averages).  In Science, we are studying Space and Technology.  The students are really interested in the planets and stars.  We will be going outside to model the distance between the planets in the solar system as well as looking at how technology has changed how we look at the universe.  Besides all of our regular studies, we are trying to get ready for the State Assessments by doing some practice tests, playing games to review concepts and trying to come up with good scientific investigations.  With all the things we are doing in class and the state assessments coming up, it is important that all students get the rest they need.  Make sure your child is eating a good breakfast in the morning and is coming prepared for the school day.  This means making sure they have their homework done and their books and assignments are in their bags.  We’re all looking forward to a good second half of our year.  –Mrs. Reedy
