Miltonvale Junior High Getting Ready for State Assessments

Junior High Social Science News

by Rick Hatfield

March 27, 2012

The Miltonvale Junior High has been getting ready for their state assessments in recent weeks.  The next 2 or 3 weeks will have them taking various tests.  The test will help evaluate what each student has learned in his or her classes over the last several years up to the present year.

To prepare for the tests, the students have been taking practice exams in class and in the computer room that are similar to the real tests they will be taking in a week or two.

These tests are important and the teachers and administrators have stressed to the students that it is important to do their best work on the tests.

In other Social Studies news, the 8th grade is working in Civics, it has been a nice change from Kansas History.  Our Civics books are brand new this year, and it has been fun studying in them.  We have had quite a few good discussions in class this Spring that have been generated by things in the new book.

We are also learning a little about all of the Presidents by doing our journals, and we just completed a series from the Salina Journal about interesting Kansans.

In the 7th grade we are still in Geography.  We are now in Europe.  Just yesterday we were in France, learning about the many products, sites, and the people of that country.  We are also learning about the different states by working in our journals and we did the Salina Journal articles about interesting Kansans as well.

It has been a great year so far, and now we are coming down to the wire, as school is in it's last 9 weeks, but it isn't time to quit just yet!
