Warriors Fall in Close One!

by Rick Hatfield

January 24, 2020

The Southern Cloud Warriors closed out the regular season with a tough loss to the Rock Hills Grizzlies on Thursday night.  The Warriors had one little dry patch the last 3 minutes of the 2nd quarter where they were outscored 10 – 0.  The rest of the game they tried to catch up and almost did, getting it back to a 3 point game in the 4th quarter, but a couple of long range shots didn’t fall in the last minute and Rock Hills was able to hang on for the win.  The final score was 29 – 23.

Rock Hills was led by Aaron Sterling with 8 points and Kale Whelchal with 8 points as well.  The Warriors were led by Dante Peterson with 11 points to lead all scorers, Gus Rice added 8 points to the Warrior cause, Kye Chase and Ethan Kennedy scored 2 points each to round out the Warrior scoring. Ethan Kennedy totaled 8 rebounds to lead the Warriors in that category.

“We played well enough to win but we didn’t get shots to fall.  Rock Hills is a scrappy group, but I thought we matched their intensity pretty well.  I’m sure they haven’t practiced as much as they would like and I know we haven’t, the weather has been a real factor this last couple of weeks.” Quoted Warrior Coach Rick Hatfield.

The Warrior B- Team did not play on Thursday, so they end their season at 6 – 6.  “I was really proud of the B-Team guys.  They worked really hard.”  Added Hatfield.

The Warriors will be the 6th seed in the PTL tournament, starting on Monday. They will play Lincoln the 6th game of the day at Mankato.
