School Year Getting Close to Over

by Rick Hatfield

May 03, 2021

The 2020 – 2021 school year is beginning to wind down.  This has been a tough year for a lot of students and staff because of the COVID – 19 Pandemic, but we are going to make it!

The Junior High Track Season has two meets left on its schedule this year.  They have competed in 4 meets already this year and have done very well earning several medals and placing in several events.  The Warriors will be heading to Beloit on Tuesday for the St. John/Tipton Invitational and then will end the season with the PTL League Meet on the 11th of May at Mankato.

The 7th and 8th graders are still hard at work in Social Studies; the 8th grade has finished Kansas History and is now working on Civics.  The 7th Grade is working on Ancient Egypt which is really important to the learning of how governments have developed in the last 8 – 10,000 years.

Both groups are also doing a unit on the CSA Hunley, the 1st submarine to sink an enemy warship.  Can you believe that was during the Civil War?  The Hunley sank the Housatonic in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina on February 17, 1864.  The Hunley then sank with all aboard.  It was raised in 1995.  Can you believe this?  It is worth 40 million dollars!

Our 8th Graders in Miltonvale this year are Juliette Meadows, Dashawn Peterson, Kye Chase, and Natalie Barney.  Our 7th Graders in Miltonvale are Ethan Haley, Kyndra Chase, Kylynn Millikan, Brennan Copple, Spencer Barney, Logan Haley, Aiden Warkentine, and Dominic Davies.

I’m really proud of this group, it has been a hard year and they have done a nice job of working through illness and disappointment (our basketball season was pretty much wiped out).  Hopefully all of us will have a happy and safe summer and be ready when school arrives next fall.
