2018 Summer School

Mrs. Pounds & Mrs. Rozean

June 21, 2018

Summer school blasted off to a great start with us averaging 8-10 kids. Our theme for this year was, Full S.T.E.A.M ahead and the students had a fun time with weekly experiments. Our first week we read the story, Vacation Under the Volcano and studied volcanoes. Each day the students worked with their group on creating a volcano. On Thursday we blasted them off!!

The next week we studied severe weather as we talked about thunderstorms, tornadoes and the impacts of flash flooding. At the end of the week we did a tornado in a bottle, lava lamps and we made rain makers. Students also had fun breaking geodes and discovering what was inside!

This last week we read, I Survived: The Joplin Tornado of 2011. Students were able to take AR tests over the books we read and we worked hard on math and reading skills all 3 weeks. To finish off the week we had a jello-quake. Students had a blast eating it after it came crashing down.
