In a flash, summer is gone, and we're somehow already in September! I don't know about anyone else, but I always feel like we somehow teleport through time from May to fall. I took advantage of the -slightly- cooler temperatures this week to take the Kindergarteners, 1st, and 2nd graders outside to do some cyanotype printmaking, which involves light sensitive paper that reacts and develops into a beautiful cobalt blue when exposed to sunlight. If the weather cooperates over the next couple of weeks and doesn't try to roast us, I plan to try this process with a few of my other grades as well.

 

To start the year off with my classes, my Ceramics students are hand-building projects and will be learning how to utilize slump molds, the 7th - 12th grade art students are refining their colored pencil skills, my 3rd - 6th graders are practicing creating 3-D forms and shading values with graphite and blending stumps, the 1st and 2nd graders are refreshing their color theory and spelling, and the Kindergarteners are learning about primary colors and how to use them to make secondary colors. We're cramming a lot into these 4 day weeks, but the students seem to be adjusting well as we adapt to the new pace. So far, so good!
