Lady Warriors Fall at Sub-State
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Lady Warriors made the long voyage east to take on an undefeated Rural Vista club on February 28. Southern Cloud, who was down a starter and leading scorer Kaitlyn Morris due to an ankle injury from the regional championship, fought diligently throughout the game. The hot shooting and aggressive man defense that has made the Rural Vista a top team in the state was too much for the Lady Warriors as they battled to a season ending 64-29 loss.
Finding them in a 17-1 hole late in the first quarter, SC went on a 9-3 run to close out the first quarter, narrowing the deficit to 10. The Lady Warriors were down 16 at half, but the Lady Heat stepped up the tempo and put the foot on the gas, blowing by the Lady Warriors and stretching the lead with hot outside shooting. The Lady Heat was successful on 10 three-point shots.
With the loss, the Lady Warriors end their season at 12-8, a season that was highlighted by winning the Tescott Tipoff in December and finishing runner-up at the regional to qualify for sub-state.

This was the last game in a Lady Warriors jersey for five seniors. The seniors on the squad were Logan Cool, Ashton Cooper, Kaitlyn Morris, Jordyn Scott, and Emily Stein. Accomplishments they made over the past four years were:

Logan Cool was a captain the past two seasons, her senior year voted by every member of the team. A four-year letter winner and a starter for three seasons, Logan was instrumental in the success of the team since day one with the program. Her attitude and effort never wavered and was always a player the girls could turn to.
Ashton Cooper was a four- year letter winner and a starter for the last two seasons. Ashton ran the point guard position and was the tempo setter, always looking down court for a streaking guard to set them up for a fast break basket. She was voted a captain by her peers for her senior season.
Kaitlyn Morris was a four-year starter and letter winner throughout her career. She was voted to the third team on the All-NPL list a season ago and was honorable mention as a sophomore. Kaitlyn streaking down the right side getting out in front of the defense on the break was something that we all saw a lot of in the past four years. She was voted a captain by her peers for her senior season.
Jordyn Scott was on the roster all four seasons and was a terrific player to have on the roster, showing pride in being a Warrior. Always bringing a great attitude to practice and games, Scott was able to find a spot in the rotation her senior season. Though undersized, Jordyn played the post position and always fought for position against bigger players, not giving an inch. She was voted a captain by her peers for her senior season.
Emily Stein was on the roster her freshman, sophomore, and senior seasons and lettered in all three, starting the majority of her senior season. Emily was a post player and was able to use her size to draw the attention of the defense, opening up shots for the guards. Having Emily back her senior season added much-needed depth to the post position for the Lady Warriors.
