Cross Country Runs at Bennington & Republic County

by Ryan Perkins

September 29, 2020

The running Warriors had a beautiful day at the Bennington Cross Country meet. The only downfall for the week was the air quality. With all of the fires out west, the smoke drifted over and made it harder for the runners to breathe. We started the day off with varsity girls. Peyton Walters ran her pace and finished 34th in a very hard meet that had the number 1 team in 1A, number 2 team in 2A, and the number 1 team in 3A. In the boys Varsity race, Levi Cool and Dante Peterson got their first taste of running for the year. They both got off to great starts, but Levi Cool would pull in front with the experience of running as a freshman. Lucas Jamison finished out the boys for the day running almost 30 seconds faster than the week before. Next week we will be running at the Republic County Cross Country Meet.

This week the running Warriors got a taste of the hotter weather at Belleville, but it just sped them up.  The race format was a little different than the past week. Peyton Walters ran varsity while Levi Cool, Lucas Jamison, and Dante Peterson ran junior varsity. The varsity girls race got off to a fast pace and ended just as fast. Sophomore Peyton Walters finished just a few places off of coming home with a medal for the second straight year. The JV runners ran a good race as well. Levi Cool and Lucas Jamison both came in to the finish line leaving it all out on the course. Dante Peterson ran his best race yet and came home with a medal. He ran over three and a half minutes faster than last week at Bennington. He ended up finishing in 7th with a time of 23 minutes and 14 seconds. The running Warriors had a fantastic day at the Republic County Meet and we all look forward to running next week at Beloit.
