SC Golf @ St. John's Invitational

By: Mr. Rick Hatfield

April 14, 2023

SC Golfers Start season at Glasco

(Glasco) The St, John’s Invitational was again played this year at Glasco Golf Course and the Southern Cloud A players did very well to start the season playing on their home course.

Levi Cool shot an 84 for 13th medal and Trenton Welch shot 97 on the day.  Levi Cool shot a 46 on the front 9 but got hot and shot 38 on the back 9.  It was a very windy day, but all of the golfers seemed to handle the wind pretty well.  Trenton Welch was a good example, he had a rough 1st 9 shooting 57, but he recovered nicely and shot 40 on the back nine,

“I was really pleased with the way we fought the wind today.  If you play golf in Kansas you have to be used to the wind because it is going to blow from time to time.” said Coach Hatfield.

The two SC B golfers, Simon Guyett and Mason Knudsen didn’t play because they felt they weren’t ready yet.  They are both brand new golfers.  Hopefully they will be ready to go later in the year.

The SC varsity 2 will play next at the NPL meet at Mankato (Rock Hills) on Tuesday.  Start time is 3:00 PM.  There is no B team that day.

Terin Winkel shot 69 to win the event followed by Jace Cunningham with a 71.  Cooper Jermark and Reid Walsh tied for third with Jermark winning in a scorecard play-off, team honors went to Lakeside with a 293, followed by St. John’s with a 328, and Tipton with a 356.
