The first girl’s game of the year was at Courtland against the Pike Valley Panthers. The Southern Cloud Girl Warriors were knocked off by the host Panthers by a score of 27-10.  The Panthers jumped up to an 8-0 first quarter lead. They continued to put it to the visiting Warriors for a 14-1 lead at half time.  The Warriors found out at half, that one of the Lady Warriors had 5 fouls, giving the Lady Warriors five girls to play the second half with. The Warriors came out of the locker room and played the Panthers evenly with both teams scoring 6 points, giving the Panthers a 20-7 lead at the end of the third quarter.  The Warriors worked really hard in the fourth quarter, but ran out of energy to lose 27-10. The girls played hard all the way to the end. Christian Smith was the leading scorer for Southern Cloud with 10 points. The girls were shorthanded with one girl getting hurt before the game started.

In the second varsity game of the night, Southern Cloud Boy Warriors battled a much more experience Panther team. With only two returning Warrior JV players from a year ago, the Warriors struggled all night.  Panthers jumped out to a 24-0 lead after the first quarter. The Panthers continued to increase the lead over the next 6 minutes to lead 28-0 at half.  The Warriors couldn’t find the basket in the first half. The third quarter was won again by the Panthers leading 48 – 2. The final quarter the Warriors were out of gas and lost 50-02. The boys continued to play hard and not give up. Leading the way for the Warriors was Dirk McCann with 2 points.

Southern Cloud lost the Boys JV contest by a score of 36-0 in just two quarters.

The next game is against Wakefield on Thursday, November 7th at Glasco and then the Warriors play at St. John’s of Beloit on Tuesday, November 14th.
