Warriors Improve at Riley County

by Rick Hatfield

May 07, 2012

Grady Brayton returned to action and took 6th at the Riley County Invitational with a 84 (+18).  Steven Mahin, Tristen Steptor, and Shiloh Studt all shot personal bests and Kaleb Thuma (53) (+20) shot a personal best and took 3rd in the B - Team event.  Only five golfers competed at Leonardville for Southern Cloud, but it was probably the best performance of the year for the Warriors overall.

Wade Hageman of Riley County won the tournament with a even par 66, Adam Horn of Rock Hills took 2nd with a 71.  Southern Cloud had Grady Brayton at 84 (+18), Steven Mahin at 89 (+23), Tristen Steptor at 106 (+40), and Shiloh Studt at 115 +50.

In the B - tournament Brandon Smith of Lakeside won with a 46 (+13).  Cody Arnette took 2nd with a 52 (+19) and Kaleb Thuma shot 53 (+20) for 3rd place honors.  Only Lakeside with a 212 and Washington County with a 233 had enough players for team scores in the B - tournament.  So Lakeside won and Washington County took 2nd.

In the A - team competition,  Riley County won with 312, 2nd was Rock Hills with a 319, Valley Heights was 3rd with a 336, Lakeside took 4th with a 361, Southern Cloud took 5th with a 395, and Pike Valley took 6th with a 404.

"I was a lot happier with our effort today.  We had a bunch of personal bests and the kids just seemed to be more in to it today.  We still have time to get better, we play at Tipton on Tuesday and then have Regional the next Monday.  I'm hopeful that we will score well in those events." Quoted Southern Cloud Golf Coach Rick Hatfield.
